Educating Rita

by Willy Russell

Directed by Gigi Robarts

Tuesday 18th - Saturday 22nd June, 2013

The Tower Theatre performing at Theatro Technis

"Gigi Robarts directs the play meticulously, managing to move the two characters within all the space at their disposal on stage. The idea of placing an "imaginary" window at the centre of the fourth-wall, between the audience and the stage, is fascinating: it establishes an eccentric point of view for the audience and, whenever an actor talks while looking outside the window, makes us feel addressed directly and invisible at the same time ... The set design is made with simplicity and care, and is lighted consistently."

"Ian Recordon and Sarah Sharp deserve - and obtained - applause for the generous energy they put into their acting."

"It can be difficult to imagine anyone but Julie Walters as Rita after she nailed the role in the 1983 film version of Willy Russell's Educating Rita. But Sarah Sharp puts in an admirable performance at Theatro Technis ..." "Ian Recorden is perfectly cast in the role of the bitter alcoholic English lecturer, and he physically slumps into the worn leather armchair of his dusty, musty office ... Gigi Robarts' direction is tight within the attractive set created by Ippolita Valentinetti."

"A fun and lively production from the Tower Theatre Company."
