An Enemy of the People is
James Keene's second play for the Tower, having appeared in Sherlock Holmes last year. Before that, he acted in various plays in the
Netherlands including Edward II in a Dutch version of Christopher Marlowe's play, the neo fascist Harm in Monocultuur and a singing octopus in
Dolfinarium (not a play). Forming his own Theatre duo "Theatergoup Elektrik" he wrote and performed in an absurd physical comedy Dat
Moeten We In Het Systeem Zetten (translating as We Should Put That Into The System) which was staged in and around Amsterdam.
Jill Ruane returns to the Tower stage after a two-year break : she was last seen as Ida in Farragut North.
She joined the Tower in 2007 and since then has been involved in many shows, both on stage and behind the scenes.
Her other acting credits with the Tower include Goneril in King Lear, Sarah in Speaking in Tongues, Una in Blackbird, Christine in
Miss Julie, Woman in Bash - Medea Redux and Mairead in The Lieutenant of Inishmore.
Ellie Ward trained at the Academy of Live and Recorded Arts. Previously with the Tower she played Edna in Mother's Day and last October was Assistant Director
on Handbagged. Other favourite roles include Mary Queen of Scots, Anne Boleyn, and Oliver Twist's Nancy in a touring open air production. Recently she has enjoyed being
part of a brand new theatre company, Bournyack Theatre, premiering Drowning On Dry Land at the New Wimbledon Studio Theatre and she has been a member of the cast at
The London Dungeon. She can currently be seen appearing as a regular cast member at Shrek's Adventure! London, playing Princess Fiona. She is also a writer and a model.
Ellie is thrilled to be playing Petra in this exciting new adaptation of a classic.
Matthew Vickers has been involved with the Tower Theatre since Popcorn in 2003. More recently he
has appeared in Coyote on a Fence, Foxfinder, Clybourne Park and Doctor Faustus.
Alexander (Ian) Grant trained at East 15 Acting School. This is his sixth production for the Tower;
he has previously appeared in Doctor Faustus (Theatro Technis 2017),
Hindle Wakes (Upstairs at the Gatehouse, 2016), Largo Desolato (Theatro Technis, 2014), The Taming of the Shrew (Theatro Technis and
Paris, 2013) and
Britannicus (Canonbury Tower, 1972). Other theatre includes : Coverage (Courtyard Theatre), Cyrano de Bergerac (Corbett Theatre),
Macbeth
(Cockpit Theatre), Hamlet (Bridewell Theatre), The Recruiting Officer (Minack Theatre), The Beaux' Stratagem
(Penzance Arts Centre), Pericles
(Minack Theatre), The Comedy of Errors (touring and CambridgeADC), Measure for Measure (touring) and Troilus and Cressida (Minack Theatre).
This is Simon Lee's third production with the Tower Theatre. Most recently he was Charles Webb in Our Town
and before that Jess Watmore in The Night Heron. Other acting credits include Jerry in Betrayal, Alec/Angel in Tess of the
D'Urbervilles, John Worthing in The Importance of being Earnest, Maugrim in The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, Marat in
The Promise, MacHeath in The Beggar's Opera, Scrooge in A Christmas Carol, Gray Meredith in A Bill of Divorcement,
Dr Kemp/Flegg in Warrior and Ralph Austin in Butterflies are Free. Simon also performed on the London comedy circuit with
The Monochromes, a musical "crooning" trio.
Jonathon Cooper's previous shows with the Tower include Mother's Day, Hindle Wakes and Doctor Faustus. He has performed in
SEDOS shows Man of La Mancha, Reefer Madness and, most recently, The Ritual Slaughter of Gorge Mastromas.
Jonathon is a member of the National Youth Theatre and can be seen for a couple of seconds on the big screen in Rogue One :
A Star Wars Story.
Sean McMullan is making his fifth Tower appearance, after The Producers, Travesties, Chancers and
Charley's Aunt. Previous roles elsewhere include Sidney (Deathtrap), Scapino (Scapino), Charlie Brown
(You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown), and various personages in Happy as a Sandbag. Sean also plays trumpet in the
Morley Big Band.
This is Bill Boyd's second show with the Tower - he played Father Yelpidy in Dying For It in 2013. Between these shows he has
played two other clergymen - Cardinal Wolsey (Anne Boleyn) and Rev. Charles Hare (A Clergyman's Daughter), and also Inspector Michaud
(Therese Raquin). Previous roles include Firs (The Cherry Orchard), Arthur Winslow (The Winslow Boy), Chebutikin (Three Sisters),
Petey (The Birthday Party) and Scullery (Road).
This is Katie Smith's seventh show with the Tower Theatre. Her most
recent roles for the Tower were as Michele in Under the Blue Sky,
Mrs Forman in Sherlock Holmes and Betsey/Lyndsey in Clybourne
Park. Prior to that she was seen in Chalet Lines, Largo Desolato
and The Doctor's Dilemma.
Constance Greenfield finished an MA in Comparative Literature at UCL last
year. She is looking forward to An Enemy of the People which is
her first play as a Tower Theatre member.
This is Ayla Mammadova's first involvement with the Tower Theatre Company. Some of
the previous shows elsewhere include Gregory's Girl, April in Paris,
Waiting for Godot, Pygmalion, The Empty Quarter and Bedroom
Farce. She also wrote and directed a play called Different which
helped raise awareness and fight the stigma of mental health
challenges in Azerbaijan.
Josh Ellison is based in South-East London and joined Tower earlier
this year. He has cut his teeth on stages around Kent and South
London and was recently nominated in the Kent Festival for his
performance in Ladies in Lavender. His other recent credits
include Orphans and Dracula.
Nigel Oram has appeared in four previous Tower productions (Farragut
North, Othello, Doctor Faustus and The Importance of Being
Earnest). He has also stage managed (Clybourne Park) and
operated sound and/or lights (Major Barbara, Travesties, Someone
Who'll Watch Over Me, Mother's Day, Charley's Aunt and The
Night Heron).
Richard Pedersen last appeared on stage as Simon Stimson, the drunken
choirmaster in Our Town last February. Prior to that he was
seriously inebriated as Barry in Road in November 2016 and as
Harry Lancaster in Marching Song in 2014. Having also appeared
as Tors, the Norwegian birdwatcher, in The Night Heron last May,
Richard was obvious casting to play this role.
This is only Stephen Brasher's second appearance on stage since he
accidentally poked a shepherd in the eye during a nativity play in
1976. His previous outing was in Telstar in 2014. He is more
usually found doing Front of House duties, stage managing /
ASM-ing shows, helping to organise company auditions, writing
the programme notes for most Tower productions and reviewing
them in "Noises Off".
Ian Hoare has acted in more than twenty productions for the Tower, and last year made his debut as a
Tower director with Hindle Wakes.
