Warming the House

Thursday 20th September was a momentous day in the history of the Tower Company as it marked the official opening of the new Stoke Newington theatre. The informal evening started with drinks and nibbles in the bar; members then moved into a darkened theatre with torches, echoing the ceremony at the last night in the Company's former home in Canonbury. Our oldest members, Denyse Macpherson and Doreen Shafran (both members for nearly 70 years!), joined Company Chairman David Taylor to light the same candle that had been extinguished on that last night in Canonbury.
This was followed by an entertainment called Warming the House, written and directed by Penny Tuerk, which highlighted memorable moments in the 86-year history of the Company. This was performed by a group of 8 actors and singers, and ended with a preview of our first full show in the theatre - Henry V.

David then made a short speech thanking everyone who had worked to acquire, convert and equip the building, and all joined in a toast to the future of the Tower.

It was then back to the bar for the rest of the evening!
