Black History Month Music Night

Black History Month Music Night

African Drumming and Vision 20:20

Co-ordinated by Simona Hughes

Sunday 17th October, 2021

At the Tower Theatre, Stoke Newington

An evening celebrating a diverse range of music from black artists across the globe which was part of the Tower Theatre Company's Black History Month season.

The first half centred on African Drumming. Aboubakar Konat from the local group "London African Drumming" performed Burkina Faso call-and-response songs on the Djembe (African drum) and the Ngoni (African harp) in a set that had everyone singing along.

The second half of the evening was entitled 20/20 Vision : A night celebrating black music from the 1920s to 2020s. This celebrated black musical talent from both within and beyond the Tower Theatre Company, bringing us music by black artists from each of the last ten decades in a brilliant journey through time!
