The 2022 Annual General Meeting

An innovation for the 2022 AGM was to hold it on a Saturday morning, with the formal business followed by lunch and a social get-together extending into the afternoon. This was evidently successful as the theatre was nearly full for the meeting despite a train strike on the day it was held.

As usual, the first item was a presentaion of the year's accounts by Financial Director Nick Insley. He reported that the Company was recovering well following the drop in activity during the Covid closure although we were still not back to the level attained before the pandemic. In cash terms we had made a profit for the year, but when depreciation was included, the final result was a loss of about £50k.

The Artistic Team of Ruth Sullivan, Simona Hughes and Angharad Ormond reviewed the past year and announced an exciting and ambitious programme of plays (and a musical) for the spring and summer seasons next year.

Landé Belo and Angharad Ormond explained the work of the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Group which has culminated in an action plan to develop and implement several initiatives to make the Tower's membership and activities more representaive of the North London community in which we are based. Jack Pattison gave a summary of the Community Engagement Group's recent work over the year, and David Taylor described plans for further major improvements to the building.

Nick Insley, Sheila Burbidge and Jude Chalk were formally appointed as Board members, and Bella Hornby, Anna Blackburn, Nichola Vasey and Stephen Brasher were elected to the Management Committee.

Awards were given out : the Barbara Waddell Award - which is given to someone who has made a contribution over a number of years - was awarded to Stephen Brasher. The Frank Smith Award - which is given to a member of less than 3 years standing who has made a contribution to the company in a variety of roles - was awarded to Anna Kidd.

The annual winners of the 150 Club prizes were also announced.

Everyone then moved to the the bar and the Frank Smith room to enjoy a a buffet lunch in celebration of the 90th anniversary of the Company. There was a slide show of photographs from 90 Tower productions and an audio "mixtape" featuring clips from around 50 shows over the years.
